Trying to whiten your teeth can be particularly difficult, but having a bright, white smile can make a huge difference to your confidence and self-esteem. For this reason, many people opt for surgery to improve their smile, paying for complicated and expensive medical procedures to correct their teeth or simply to whiten them.

What many people don’t realise however, is that there are a few simple methods for whitening your teeth that don’t involve expensive trips to a health spa or dentists for a whitening treatment.

Most people don’t realise but a lot of foods will actually help remove stains from your teeth; exfoliating the teeth before stain molecules can properly attach themselves. Foods that can help whiten teeth include carrots, broccoli, apples, lettuce and celery.

The tone of your skin and colour of your lips can also make a difference to how white (or otherwise) your teeth appear. Try suitable lipsticks or skin care products to try and improve the colouration of your teeth. If you suffer from yellowy teeth, you should try and steer clear of particularly dark shades, also avoiding the very shiny lip glosses. Instead you should try and go for pinker shades. If your teeth are slightly grey, you’ll want to aim for cool, light tones and should stay away from dark red lipsticks.
Adding to your tan can also help your teeth look whiter, although you should opt for spray-on tan as opposed to UVA rays, as this is a far safer option.

Your choice of clothing can also impact on how white your teeth look. If you don’t have the whitest of teeth, you should stay away from wearing bright white shirts, as this will generally make your teeth look even less white. You should instead go for an off-white coloured shirt, which will reduce the level of contrast and make your teeth look whiter.

You can also opt for the professional toothpastes designed to whiten your teeth, many of which do genuinely make a difference. Whilst many are expensive, you can always utilise online review sites to get gift vouchers, reducing the amount of money you’ll have to pay for the more expensive products.
